The Western Horse Does English

Even though we mostly ride Western, T does occasionally drag out her English saddle.  She hasn't been able to ride Zip with her English tack yet since he's much bigger than the horses we have had most recently and he needed a bigger  girth.  After a trip to the local consignment tack shop, we found the right size for a super cheap price.  So the Western range horse was a hunter/jumper for a day.

We set up a small crossrail jump to see how he would do.  He's an honest jumper who does what's asked of him with grace.  T had fun and Zip learned a new skill.  We have all winter to get him ready for show season next year.  Poor horse has no idea what he's in for :)

I like it when they can do different things, makes riding even more fun. I have a western saddle but I am actually taking dressage lessons to get over my fear issues and I will be doing both with my own horses next spring! Lookin good:)

I never realized you could ride both styles on the same horse - I took riding lessons in the YMCA at day camp and more lessons later in both styles (on different horses). I haven't riden in ages - but it seems a lot of training is training the rider.
