Move 'Em Up, Head 'Em Out
Wow, I can't believe it's finally the weekend! I know I keep saying it but - this was a busy week. I went to work on the President's Day holiday and ended up working 16 hours on a special high priority, high profile project. That sort of set the tone for the rest of the week. Anyway....we are doing some shuffling around today that I will post about later after it's all finished.

Kicking up their Heels
The temps are rising and the ice is finally melting. The horses are enjoying the temps and the improved footing. Saturday included a good gallop across the field.

Sunday Stills - Spring Preview
This week's Sunday Stills Challenge is Spring Preview - I don’t know about ya’ll but I’m sick of no color to photograph in winter. So with that lets dig into the archives for this week and lats see some color from previous springs and summers to warm us up a bit, more color and warmth the better..:-))
AMEN - I don't know about you but I too am sick of all of the drab lack of color that this winter has brought. I am so ready for flowers and blooms of spring. I chose one photo from last year, mostly because it just feels so hopeful. We should see these returns in the next few weeks.

Maccabee Bling
Doesn't he look cute in his bling?? It seems to suit his personality.
It's hard to see because it was actually sunny

Catching Up
I feel like I am perpetually playing catch up. I have been trying to at least read blog updates and comments but please know that even if I don't get the chance to comment on your blog, I'm still here. I do read everything and I e-mail when I can. And on top of a busy schedule, I have a stupid cold. I guess it's the universe's way of telling me to slow down (or forcing me to).
January was quite the whirlwind month. I kind of feel like we got blindsided. The winter weather held off for the most part for December (cold but not much snow) but we had a ton of things going on - my stepfather's wedding, 4H holiday dinner, Buxmont holiday dinner, crunch time at work followed by Christmas and New Years. And then all hell broke loose on the weather front. It seems not a week went by (more like 3-4 days) without something - rain, sleet, freezing rain, ice, high winds, snow, subzero temps. The weather made having horses quite the challenge although they did just fine. In between storms, I had an accident on the way home from work and totalled my Jeep. I spent several days working from home because of the weather. T's school schedule was a mess - in a 3 week period (15 weekdays), she had 3 regular full days of school - 1 planned holiday, 1 planned early dismissal, 5 snow days, plus several weather related early dismissal/delayed openings. Somewhere in between all that, we were supposed to have a school meeting to review her classes for 10th grade. It's scheduled for tonight but had been postponed twice (here's hoping 3rd times the charm). I did receive the payout for my totalled Jeep and was able to get another car so that's a huge relief.
February is also busy but not nearly so much as January. As I was driving to work milling over this blog post and my things-to-do list, I noticed the beautiful pink sunrise. It's amazing how a little bit of sun can brighten your whole world.

Sunday Stills Challenge - Emotions
This week's Sunday Stills Challenge is Emotions - This weeks challenge it to post pics that will cause an emotion in the person who checks out your blog, not your emotion. Any emotion will do, this will be a fun challenge and try not to use archives, but they will work in a pinch.
The weather has been a huge factor for us this winter and has kept us completely preoccupied. We have had some form of precipitation every 3-4 days so there hasn't been much time or energy for photos. Because this challenge is about the emotion of the reader, I chose not to add a caption or a description. Please tell in the comments what emotions this evokes for you.

Ice Ice, Baby
The storm that hit the midwest with lots of snow and wind hit our area with some snow, sleet, freezing rain and ice. By the end, we had about a half of an inch of solid ice on everything. The trees looked really pretty - like they were dipped in glass - but the rest of the world was treacherous. The temps slowly rose above freezing and then the melt started. Not only did the ice look like glass but it sounded like glass breaking as it hit the ground. Temps dropped well below freezing at night so everything froze again.
Believe it or not, these are not black and white photos.
Everything was pretty monochromatic yesterday morning.

Today will be below freezing but sunny and tomorrow should be in the mid-30s with sun. More rain/snow for Saturday. Punxsutawney Phil is predicting an early spring - I sure hope he's right!

Fun in the Snow
I finally got a chance to ride on Sunday. I wanted to make sure that all of the soreness was gone. The sun actually came out and we had a slow melt (dropped into the teens again at night). So I tacked Rooster up with the sheepskin bareback pad. I was bundled up - fleece breeches with quilted breeches over them, Columbia snow boots and my big parka. Combined with Rooster's winter hair, we make quite the pair :)
I let Rooster have his head but the snow was pretty deep and he didn't really want to go much faster. And then we trotted back down. Not a terribly long ride but it was awesome!
Walk/trot/canter in the ring. We mostly trotted in the snow.
