Sunday Stills – Weeds and Grasses

This week's Sunday Stills Challenge is Weeds and Grasses.  I finally was able to get pics for a Sunday Stills challenge.  I’ve had very little time for any photos just for fun but did take my camera to the farm the other day to take pics of all the green things growing.

A dandelion next to the riding ring

Some kind of crazy vine along the pasture fence

Wild daisies

Multiflora rose - this stuff grows wild, is everywhere and is really hard to get rid of

One Month Mark

Yesterday was one month since we brought Rocky home and he is well on his way to being a solid citizen.  Tuesday night, our vet came and gelded him.  I was stressed out about this vet visit since he only had one testicle had dropped (kind of a gross topic, I know) which meant that if the other didn't dropped he would require surgery at a vet clinic to have it removed.  With good nutrition, a bit of time and some help from Mother Nature, two appeared.  It kind of became the major topic of conversation - "do you see one or two?"  So Tuesday, he was knocked out and snipped.  While he was under, the vet checked his teeth and removed his wolf teeth.  Poor guy is sore on both ends!  He did great and has such a wonderful disposition.  Even the vet commented on how well behaved he was for a 4 year old stallion.  And the vet did confirm, by checking his teeth, that he is 4.  Vet thinks he's a Quarter Horse/Arab cross.  He's up and moving around and will have penicillin for a few days to head off any infection.  Lots of turnout to help keep swelling to a minimum.  We are hoping to integrate him into the herd in a couple of weeks.  He has filled out incredibly fast and his gorgeous new coat is growing in.  We've been busy with other things and I haven't had a chance to get updated pics but hopefully will be able to on the holiday weekend.

Annie

This is Annie, a yearling Thoroughbred.  She's awfully cute and quite the little lady.  We get to watch her grow.

Monday...Again

Whew, these weekends are just flying by!!  Looking forward to a three day weekend coming up.

Saturday was a 4H show held by the club T is a member of, Timbertalk Trotters.  They asked me to take pics so I am sifting through the 600+ pics from the day.  Since there are so many classes, there are classes in two rings simultaneously and Craig manned a second camera.  The weather was perfect but I am still sunburned.

Sunday was a gymkhana show at Spring Mountain Farm.  T rode Zip and the barn owner's daugher, M, rode Rooster.  Both girls did great especially considering the tough competition.  T missed out on the $100 stake money by 4/100th of a second.  A great run!

Today is off to work again and hopefully get the pics from the 4H show up.  The vet is coming tomorrow to geld Rocky.  Yay!  I can't wait until we can turn him out with some horsey friends.  He's really social and talks to them over the fence.  Will post some pics later.

Weeks 2 and 3

Lots going on with Rocky.  His feet were trimmed right after we brought him home and it made a huge difference in how he stands.  He’s been wormed twice, he’s shedding like a maniac and he’s really starting to feel better.  Poor guy is shedding bald.  The new hair is coming in slowly but he’s got big bald spots.  He gets turned out in the ring right now across from our herd and nibbles grass along with munching on hay and alfalfa cubes plus grain twice a day.  He’s got very good ground manners and we are going to start working with him now that his energy level is definitely up.  The vet is scheduled to geld him next Tuesday.

Grand Champion!

We had the first Buxmont gymkhana for the season (the April show was cancelled due to the weather and will be made up in October).  T and Zip were totally in tune and she finished the night as Grand Champion with 33 points – a great start to the season!

Yesterday was a much needed day off for me and I got to ride Rooster for quite a bit.  I will have an update on Rocky posted soon.

Leaping Maccabee

The Girls have set up jumps in the ring and have been torturing schooling all of the horses/ponies.  Maccabee is looking a bit "fluffy" these days (can you say "easy keeper") so T has made a point of increasing his exercise.

They ride nearly every day - English, Western, bareback, double, in the ring, on the trails.  These poor horses have no idea what they are in for all summer :o)

Buxmont Gymkhana tonight with Zip - T is ready!

Week 1

Our little project pony is coming along.  He's gained about 20 pounds and is shedding like a fiend.  He eats every little morsel that we give him and has been nibbling at the grass at the edge of the riding ring where we have him turned out during the day.  His feet were trimmed and he's been wormed which he desperately needed since he was passing live worms (EW!!).  The girls are treating the various spots of skin crud and abrasions.  His rear ankles were swollen when he stepped off the trailer but have been slowly going down.  There are abrasions on his ankles and I have a feeling that his back feet may have been roped.  We'll never know for sure.  He has shown a little bit of spunk here and there and we get glimpses of what his trot and canter will be like.  He's got a sweet personality so far.  We have a call in to the vet to discuss getting him gelded soon.

Still bony but looking better already

Macro Monday - Creative "Paint"

We saw this truck last week at New Holland.  It looked like somebody did a really creative paint job...until you get close up and realize that the entire thing is done with Sharpie markers.  They started the outline on the other side of the truck but it's a work in progress.

To my blogger friends, I have had a change in connectivity to Blogger.  I am still reading blogs but may not be able to comment.  I'm still here and still keeping up!
